HISTORY

The Order of St. Luke began as a Christian fellowship of clergy and lay people interested in sharing experiences of Jesus' healing ministry in 1932 with the Rev. John Gayner Banks and his wife Ethel Tulloch Banks. They shared dream of drawing all those involved in the healing ministry under the umbrella of a world Christen healing fellowship based on the four Gospels of Jesus Christ. ::more history::

WE BELIEVE

The revival of Christian healing in the church today may be a means of the greatest advance of Christianity in this century.
God's healing power operates within the church which is the body of Christ on earth, through its membership.

God works through human channels to do His healing. We must make ourselves fit and willing channels for this work.

THE RULE OF THE ORDER OF ST. LUKE THE PHYSICIAN

Members of OSL are urged to keep the spirit of the Rule of the Order which follows, and to remember that it is to be an important part in shaping our lives in Christ Jesus.

1. I will PRAY daily for this work, remembering to use the Lord's Prayer with the special intention that God's will may be done in me and in all humankind. I will also use the special prayer of St. Luke's Day at frequent intervals.
   
2. I will CULTIVATE a personal prayer life, and will seek a closer walk with Jesus Christ, Our Savior and Healer.
   
3. I will PRAY for the whole body of Christ for the purpose of supporting the scriptural intent that the whole body "upbuild itself in love." (Eph 4:16)
   
4. I will READ from the New Testament daily.
   
5. I will RECEIVE Holy Communion regularly.
   
6. I will SEEK such health of body, soul, and spirit as will make me capable of maximum vocation.
   
7. I will CULTIVATE the gifts God has given me for the work of healing by study, by active service, and by giving heed to the revelation God gives in particular circumstances.
   
8. I will SEEK continued growth as an instrument our Lord can use for the healing of others.
   
9. I will SHARE this healing gospel with others by personal witness, by praying with others, by supporting Sharing, A Journal of Healing, by circulating healing literature, and by contributing according to my ability.
   
10. I will ATTEMPT all of this so far as I am able with the help of God.
