Convener News - September 2006
I was taught that one should not open a letter with an apology, but
I am ignoring that rule. I apologize and ask your forgiveness for not
having written a Conveners Newsletter since I assumed the duties of
Convener Liaison.
The OSL North America Conference was wonderful and I do hope that you
were one of the attendees. There was no "convener's workshop."
Instead, we had a convener's meeting where we shared with each other
the things which were working or not working in our OSL chapters.
Should you have any questions, please contact me, email: trudence@swbell.net.
I, as Convener Liaison, recommended that each chapter have a set of
by-laws., modeled on the OSL Bylaws
We learned that there are no rules about how often your group meets.
Some chapters meet every week, others meet bi-monthly, and still others
meet monthly. There are some groups which meet quarterly. We all agreed
that the frequency of meetings must be determined by what works for
each individual chapter. However, the more frequent the meetings the
more the members share and bond with each other.
Another topic we addressed was the programs for meetings. Again, it
was understood that we all have to deal with what works best for your
chapter. Some of the schedules included the following:
· Studying the required workbook together.
· After completing the above, choosing a book from the list approved
as one of the required 3 books for group discussion.
· Studying other books on the OSL approved list.
· Meeting occasionally to study a particular story of healing
from the Bible and following that with breaking up into prayer groups
of 3 or 4 to pray for each other.
· Coordinating with the Clergy about having regular times when
prayer teams are available to pray with and for those who ask for prayers
for healing.
